Fibertex's non-woven Formtex ® has been selected as one of the world's largest bridge projects to build a 36 kilometer gulf bridge connecting Kuwait City and subiyah. The bridge connects Kuwait City with the new Madinat al hareer (silk city), a $100 billion urban development project, including the world's tallest tower, Burj Mubarak al Kabir, with a height of 1001 meters, and the international bubiyan seaport. The silk city is expected to play a key role in connecting the Middle East and Asia.
The project includes 27 kilometers of Causeway and a beautiful viaduct, 200 meters wide and 23 meters high. Upon completion of the project, the bridge will reduce the distance between Kuwait City and subiyah area from 104 km to 36 km, thus reducing the travel time from 90 minutes to 30 minutes. The bridge is one of Kuwait's largest and most challenging transport and infrastructure projects and will be a monument to the late Emir era.
Connecting Kuwait City with the new Silk City
The increase of salt water, high temperature and carbon dioxide content in the air aggravates the damage to the concrete structure. Therefore, according to the requirements of the project owner, innovative solutions are needed to ensure the service life of reinforced concrete is more than 120 years.
The project is carried out as a design build operate (dbo) project and the contractor must pay for maintenance during part of the operation. Therefore, special attention should be paid to finding financially sustainable solutions throughout the life cycle of the bridge.

Fibertex, a Danish company from orburg, will provide 1.5 million square meters of Formtex ® non-woven fabric for casting bridge decks and piers. Formtex ® is used in the field casting of concrete components. Formtex ® CPF is used as the lining material to discharge water from the concrete structure, so as to reduce the water / cement (w / C) ratio of the concrete. It can form a smooth and uniform concrete casting without air holes, so as to ensure that the concrete surface can withstand the strong impact of sand and salt water. This is not the first time Formtex ® has been selected into a major international project, but the largest so far.
